Martin, thanks for the mention. My blog is not focused on IF (it's not really focused on much of anything) but I'm always happy to share my results.

You might be familiar with this IF blog...the leansaloon.com. Very informative!

Martin,
Thanks again for the acknowledgment. Some day, when I overcome my binge eating, I'll make you proud. It may not have been one of your early goals, but the likelihood of binging while on IF seems to be far lower, from what I've read. And it's certainly true for me (although it still happens occasionally).

Best,
Martin

Martin-
For a woman doing your IF regimen, does taking bcaa make females get large muscles? I've been doing IF for a few weeks now, and I was wondering if I should take the bcaa like you recommend. I don't want to look like a body builder, no offense.

Hey Martin,

Currently doing a fasted workout with BCAA's pre and post, eating a large meal an hour. Why is it after this meal my heart is RACING for a good couple of hours after? And its almost like I'm in a state of anxiety/euphoria?

Confused.

I've sometimes experienced the same thing, heart racing after a big meal, anxiety/euphoric feelings following. Martin, what the heck is going on?

Martin, thank you for posting other peoples blogs. GREAT IDEA for helping fill in the gaps until your book comes out and showing how people have been affected by your ideas.

Cathyx,

"I don't want to look like a body builder, no offense."

Yeah, watch out. You might wake up one day and look like a bodybuilder. Happens all the time with women.

Stop spicing your meal with crystal meth.

It's due to increased SNS output. Insulin does that. More so in some individuals.

Sorry Martin, I can't help it, crystal meth tastes sooo gooood!

"It's due to increased SNS output. Insulin does that. More so in some individuals."

I've lately been trying out a more high-protein/high fat paleo diet with carbs ranging from 50-150 g/day, as Mark Sisson advocates, combining it with 16 hour fasts, and I feel great! I haven't yet experienced any heart racing or feelings of anxiety although I've still downed big meals. Do you think the lower carb intake (and thereby lower insulin output) could be the explanation to this?

Yes

So Martin, for those who do experience this, should the meals be adjusted in any way? Does the increased SNS output negatively affect the Leangains guide?

Unknown said...

Yes, decrease carbs.

About the binge eating issue:

I had the same problem, and do you know how I solved it?

First I had to identify the cause of every binge episode, and then eliminate it completely.

In my case, bingeing was triggered whenever I deviated from my usual IF plan. For example, If I was offered a piece of cake at work, then I ate a whole cake as soon as I got out from there. I don´t know why. It has a psychological reason but neither me or actual science can actually explain it.

So, I told everybody that I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy. That´s my excuse for avoiding every treat offered at any place, as every junk served always contains wheat.

Since then (about 4 motnhs ago), I only binged 2 times instead of .... well, probably in 4 months I used to binge about 6 times.

And now, thanks to IF and a very high protein intake, as well as mantaining only a slight calorie deficit instead of a crazy one, I have find my cure, at least I hope so.

Hope this helps you.

Martin, do you have something to say about binge eating and how it affects long-term goals?

Hi Martin - just to let you know, I've just posted a 12-week update, with photos, body comp graph, meal photos and eating window chart for anyone who's interested.

I'm glad to see that more and more people are seeing the benefits of intermittent fasting. It's too bad that mainstream fitness is completely clueless to its effectiveness. I have been going strong with fasting 1-2 times a week for well over a year now and haven't lost any muscle!
