Fitocracy Invites

Feeling fat and sluggish after Thanksgiving? Motivation lacking? Need someone to give you a kick in the pants to get going? Well, look no further, because I got 1000 Leangains exclusive Fitocracy invites for you.

That's right, Christmas comes early this year.

What is Fitocracy, some of you might wonder? Fitocracy is a unique and fun way to log and track your training online, "gamer style". If you've been reading my articles, you know that I consider careful logging and tracking of your training absolutely essential for progress (recently discussed here). If you can make the process fun and engaging, all the better.

The Fitocracy community is friendly, passionate and troll-free. From what I've seen, the ratio of broscientists to sensible people is very much in favor to the latter group, which is a rarity among fitness communities, and another big plus.

CNN did a feature on Fitocracy: "Why gamers are a great fit at the gym."

Brian Wang and Dick Talens were the stereotypical video-gamers in high school. One was scrawny, the other fat. They grew up playing marathon sessions of 'EverQuest' and 'Counter-Strike.'

Like Brian and Dick, I was a hardcore gamer. From The Last Ninja 2 on my Commodore 64 as a kid, to Street Fighter 2 and Final Fantasy 6 on Super Nintendo in my early teens, to marathon sessions of StarCraft and World of Warcraft in my early twenties, video games have been a big part of my life. I don't have much time to play nowadays, unfortunately.

I might be biased, considering my gamer background, but I think Fitocracy is a fantastic and well-executed concept. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them (Fitocracy is still in Beta phase and they're gradually adding new features).

By the way, here's what Dick told me a while back:

If you make a post, feel free to let people know that the creators are huge Leangains fans. We definitely wouldn't have as much time for Fitocracy if we never switched to intermittent fasting (used to obsess and spend hours prepping/eating 6 meals...), so your methods are responsible for a lot of our rapid building/success thus far.

And that's just awesome to hear. There's a ton of Leangains fans within the Fitocracy community, so rest assured that you will be among like minded people there. Anyway, here we go with the invite link:

P.S. My top 7 favorite video games of all time, since you're all dying to know: Final Fantasy 6, Fallout 2, Street Fighter 2, Zelda: A Link to The Past, Resident Evil, StarCraft: Brood War and Advance Wars. No special order, because I find it impossible to rank them.

  1. This is awesome! I haven't heard of this before, I have now signed up :)

  2. Martin, if you're ever in the Washington, DC area let me know. I owe you like 4 cheesecakes for all the good you've done me. Thanks again! Can't wait to get started with Fitocracy!

  3. Whatever you do, don't get Skyrim. I broke my video game fast for it and a ton of potentially productive hours simply disappeared.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yea Fitocracy and yea Link to the Past!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Respect about FF6. Thanks for the invite!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Final Fantasy 6 - Ultima and Atma sword FTW!!!

Btw, we should find a way to follow other leangains (or non-broscientist) loggers. Any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Zelda är ju bara för underbart!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I've been waiting to get in for months. Thanks Martin!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wow, thanks a bunch Martin :)

PS. AWESOME taste in video games bro...Fallout 2 FTW!

  10. Thanks to Fitocracy and LG, I've lost 9 lbs in the past 5 weeks with SEVERAL bouts of fuckarounditis, as well as hitting PRs for the big 3 lifts.

Creating a social networking site who have a bunch of people who share the same goals has been nothing short of awesome for my health and fitness.

  11. Resident Evil 1, when you are walking the corridor and the rabid dogs burst through the window the first time. "Oh Shit!" -Ah sweet memories.

  12. Even if you're not into the gaming aspect, it's worth it just for the logging features and graphs, etc. Best I've seen. The point system has some problems, but all in all it's well done.

Although, Dick, if you're reading this, all these whiners demanding more points for bodyweight exercises or yoga or whatever because they "don't like going to the gym" or "would rather work out outside" or "my gym doesn't have barbells" need to be told to sack up. What you posted on your tumblr is a start, but clearly these people didn't get the hint. Join a fucking gym! With barbells!

Fitocracy, because of the buzz it's getting and how well it's been executed so far, has a chance to change the bullshit paradigm that is convention fitness wisdom. Leangains is great and my favorite fitness site, Martin is a genius, but he may be too hardcore/rough around the edges to really reach the masses. (I doubt Martin would apologize for this). So find a way to tell all these people attracted to your site, but who don't know shit about fitness, how to get it done. Some sort of manifesto that won't turn them off, but will get them to give up their bullshit ideas.

  13. Seems like a pretty cool site. Starcraft FTW :)

  14. Thank you, Martin!

And FWIW, Triple Action (IntelliVision) Dragon Warrior (NES), Shadowrun (SNES), SSX 3 (PS2) and Warhawk (PS3) for me. :o)

  15. Loved Final Fantasy 6 possibly my favorite in the series (best plot for an RPG ever?).

I was 11 I think when I got the first Resident Evil, played for about an hour nearly shit my pants and then didn't pick it up again for nearly 2 years!

Also thanks for getting more people involved in Fitocracy it's always good to have knowledgeable people involved especially on the diet side of things.

I've had 3 months of leangains style eating now and it's been excellent in helping me maintain my (small) muscle mass through the Rugby season whilst shedding fat.

  16. Zelda: A link to the past = best game ever =D

    ReplyDelete
  17. Did anybody else have Final Fantasy victory fanfare music start playing in their head after they leveled up on Fitocracy?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha, I just asked on the Leangains Facebook page for a Fitocracy invite a few days ago. And tweeted Martin. I eventually got one, though.

I have to say, great game list. Starcraft: BW for the win.

  19. All invites are used up! :-P Thanks anyway Martin. I'll be quicker next time

  20. All the Final Fantasies (esp. 3 and 7), Chrono Trigger, every RPG made for SNES for that matter... Then in my early teens, a game called NexusTK was my gateway drug and Everquest was my crack. Tallon Zek team PvP servers! None of that carebear server crap :D

God help me if I should ever start out WoW

  21. sad that everyone can join who isn´t even a true gamer ...

I don´t even get an invite as a former progamer that is obsessed with working out and nutrition :-(

Fallout 2: Brotherhood was an amazing childhood game of mine :D

  22. Quitting WoW was way tougher than quitting breakfast.

  23. "Andy Morgan said...
Resident Evil 1, when you are walking the corridor and the rabid dogs burst through the window the first time. "Oh Shit!" -Ah sweet memories."

No doubt, one of the best moments in video game history imho.

I'm not as rabidly into video games as I used to be, more casual than hardcore now.

I've been with fitocracy for about 5 months or so. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Martin, I'm the owner of the leangains group on Fitocracy, would be awesome if you popped in to say something man! Love your stuff and your playing of starcraft.
